MERCHANDISE: On sale at the event hotel (Clarion North Hotel at 1950 Newtown Pike, Lexington, KY 40511) on Thursday 12-8pm, Friday 8-7pm, and at the race on Saturday.

  • Race bibs will be distributed at dinner on Friday.

MEET LOCATION: Bourbon County Park in Paris, Kentucky. 1054 Millersburg Rd., Paris, KY.

LODGING: We have 20 rooms booked at the Residence Inn by Marriott (1080 Newtown Pike - Lexington, KY 40511). Call 859-231-6191 to book your room.

TEAM TENT: For the course preview and race days, we have a designated team tent. At this time, I do not know where the tent will be stationed, but there will be an 8’ Whisper flag outside of the tent, so keep an eye out for that, ask for directions from an official, and/or text/call me when you arrive.

COURSE PREVIEWS: We will meet on Friday, December 10, between 1-2pm for the Bourbon County Park course preview.

TEAM DINNER: We have reservations for Sutton's Restaurant (110 N Locust Hill Dr, Lexington, KY 40509) at 4:00-5:30pm. Sutton’s has gluten-free options and is approximately 20-minutes from our hotel.

SATURDAY RACES: See JO XC Passport.

MEALS & HANG-OUTS:

  • Friday team dinner at Suttons (see above).

    • After dinner, the kids can hang out at the hotel in a room reserved just for the team, while the parents hang-out in another. It is wise to wind things down by 9pm for a good nights rest.

  • Saturday morning: aim to eat a breakfast consistent with what you typically have before an ordinary race. Day-of-race changes to ones diet are not advised. Be sure to have a nutritious breakfast and drink plenty of water. Trying new foods or energy substitutes should be done during general training periods, not before races (especially Nationals).

    • Since Coach Dave will be at the race venue early in the morning, we will not meet as a team for breakfast.

  • Saturday evening: After your child’s race, you are free to remain at the event, or go tour the area. We will have a Sundae Bar around 8:00pm or 9:00pm, as well as the same additional space/room for the kids to hang out, play games, watch movies, etc.

THINGS TO DO IN LEXINGTON: The following is a list generated by parents from last years trip - you might even hear an accent while reading. If you are interested, ordering tours ahead of time is advised.

  • Parent 1: “We went to the Kentucky Horse Farm where we walked about on a beautiful sunny day. The museum and shop were the only open attractions last year.

  • We went back to the Horse Park for The Southern Lights Festival which was fantastic! And it was only $25 per car, (online tickets save queuing time as you enter) carpooling is cost effective and also more fun! They had a petting zoo where kids got to feed the animals, pony rides and hot chocolate and other treats. They had a huge lighted Christmas bauble for photos.

  • We also toured The Henry Clay house, the house itself has been well maintained with some of the original furniture having been donated back. They had a Santa there but kids could only say hello through a window last year. Outside was a lovely sleigh for photo opportunities and a quaint shop for mementos and some cute gifts. Sadly, like many of these estates, there's history of slavery linked to it.

  • We did visit a really nice chocolate shop, Old Kentucky Chocolates, lots of Christmas themed goodies. It is at the Southland Shopping Centre not far from The Residence inn if you're staying there again. Also, a decent breakfast spot at the same shopping centre ( can't remember the name).”

  • Parent 2: “Corto Lima or Corto Y Lima, Joella’s Hot Chicken, and Bella Notte-Italian food

  • I didn’t take a bourbon tour bc I didn’t book one in time, but I would if I was going again!”

There you go! Safe travels!
